Fire broke out Friday afternoon at a duplex at 5840 Central Ave. in the south end of town, but Ocean City firefighters prevented it from spreading to other homes.“Everyone did a good job,” Fire Chief Jim Smith said.
No one was injured, but renters who were staying on the second floor were forced to leave because of the smoke. The 2:30 p.m. blaze damaged the first floor, which was unoccupied at the time, Smith said.The cause remains under investigation.Four Ocean City fire companies responded. Firefighters from Marmora and Margate and a rescue crew from Upper Township were also on scene.
