Cape May County Declares Code Blue Weather Advisory

  • News
The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management has declared a “Code Blue” severe weather advisory from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday for all local municipalities. Wind gusts up to 30 mph and temperatures dropping near the freezing mark overnight could pose a danger to the county’s homeless population. A Code Blue emergency is declared when temperatures drop to 32 degrees or below. It is intended to protect homeless people living outside, on the streets, in parks or in poorly insulated settings and who are at risk for cold-related exposure and possible death. People needing shelter during a Code Blue emergency should call the Cape May County Division of Social Services at (609) 886-6200, ext. 2434, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or call 2-1-1 after 4:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Additional information regarding Code Blue conditions can be found on the Cape May County Social Services website at
