On October 20, 1879, shortly after purchasing Peck’s Beach to create a “Christian seaside resort and camp meeting place,” Rev. Ezra B. Lake, Rev. S. Wesley Lake, Rev. James E. Lake, Rev. William H. Burrell, Hon. Simon Lake, and Rev. William B. Wood incorporated the “Ocean City Association.”
Together, they mapped out the town of Ocean City, building streets, bridges, infrastructure, railroads, schools, and the Ocean City Tabernacle.
Celebrating its 140th anniversary, the Ocean City Tabernacle Association, as it is now known, continues to uphold the vision of its founders: that Ocean City be a pure retreat exemplifying the spirit, values and faith of Christianity.

Over these 14 decades, led by many great visionaries, the Tabernacle has grown to offer not only seasonal worship services, but also year-round conferences and concerts, pre-school and after-school programs, and other family-focused ministries to serve Ocean City and the surrounding area.
