Two pedestrians were struck by a motor vehicle when crossing the road at Eighth Street and Bay Avenue on Friday night at the start of the Memorial Day weekend in Ocean City.
They were taken to the hospital. Police did not release their names, their hometown or the extent of their injuries.
At 5:33 p.m., police and fire personnel responded to the accident. Both victims were transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City Campus, for treatment of their injuries.
One of the victims, a 47-year-old man, was taken by helicopter and the other, a 40-year-old woman, went by ambulance, police said in a press release.
The driver of the vehicle, a 48-year-old woman, remained on the scene.
A preliminary investigation on scene determined that the vehicle was traveling west on Eighth Street and made a left turn to head south on Bay Avenue when the accident occurred.
The accident is being investigated by the Ocean City Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit and the Ocean City Police Department’s Detective Bureau, with assistance from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit. The Fatal Accident Investigation Unit is called in during serious accidents.
