Mayor’s Message: May 17

  • News
Dear Friends, We’re starting to see the results of our spring capital improvement program. The repaving of Sixth Street was finished today. All repaving from South Jersey Gas improvements across town is now complete. Paving in the neighborhood south of 55th Street is expected to begin next week. Contractors are completing punch-list items for the major neighborhood drainage projects at mid-island and at the north end. The city now has 10 operational pumping stations. While this equipment cannot prevent extreme flooding, it has proven effective in reducing much of the nuisance flooding that affects quality of life for many of our residents. I would like to thank the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for providing nearly $5 million for our north end project. Successful partnerships like these are vital as we continue to enhance flood resilience across all of Ocean City. The enlarged Boardwalk ramp at 13th Street is complete, as is a new ADA-compliant ramp over the dunes at Surf Road. Public Works crews are out cleaning the beaches in preparation for the season, and extended beach mats leading to the high-tide line soon will be in place at 34th Street to make the beach more accessible to all. The weekend forecast looks great. I hope you all take the time to get out and enjoy all that Ocean City has to offer. Warm regards, Mayor Jay A. Gillian
