Frenchy's umbrella and lounge chair rentals occupied a prime piece of real estate on the Ninth Street beach last summer.
Following is a statement from Mayor Jay Gillian:
I want to report that the vendor operating the beach rentals at Ninth Street announced an agreement last night to lease the services to another company.
The lease includes terms that prevent the new vendor from setting up chairs and umbrellas before they’re rented. This agreement took effect this morning, and the beach is free of the unoccupied setups that took up so much space at this popular destination.
I want to thank the owners of both companies for agreeing to these terms at the request of the city, and I want everybody to know that the city will do whatever it takes to preserve public access to the beach on behalf of every resident, guest and business in town.
Warm regards,
Mayor Jay Gillian
Editor's note: Frenchy's, a French fries business on the Boardwalk, has been placing its umbrellas and chairs on the Ninth Street beach. Frenchy's announced in a Facebook post that it has reached a deal for Swift Beach Services to lease the beach chair and umbrella business starting July 1.
Rows of lounge chairs had lined a portion of the entrance to the beach.
