Locals and Visitors Enjoy Cameo Appearance by the Sun

  • News
By Tim Kelly What was that big orange thing up in the sky over Ocean City on Sunday? OK, it’s a very old joke about the sun. But not as old as our weather seemed to be getting after three straight days of heavy intermittent rain, tidal flooding on low-lying streets, and bone-chilling winds. During that period, the old jokes heard around town were about building arks and enjoying the extreme conditions—if you happened to be a duck. With the re-appearance of Old Sol game the re-emergence of humanity on the beach, boardwalk and all around town. They seemed to soak up every ray while they enjoyed temperatures in the low 80s. Ocean City resident George Chard was riding his bike and pulling a trailer with dogs Rocco and Bella aboard. “When you live so close (to the beach) and the weather is nice, you feel like you have get out here,” he said. “I’m glad I did.  This is the best time of the year.  It’s not too crowded, but there are plenty of people to talk to and most of the stores are open.  It’s just the perfect time of the year.” Things weren’t so perfect for Cindy and Bob Clark of Norristown, PA., who arrived on Friday night with a church youth group of 13 young adults
Ocean City’s George Chard takes Rocco (the larger pooch) and Bella for a spin. The couple enjoyed a beach game called Kubb with two of the members of their group, Rachel Lozzi of Baltimore MD., and Jordan Lichty of King of Prussia, PA. “We’ve been playing board games, reading the Bible and praying a lot,” said Bob. “We had a lot of praying going on. Today our prayers were answered.” Sunday’s warm weather may have been a blessing for the Leunig family of Phoenixville, PA., but the wet stuff failed to get them down following their arrival in town on Thursday, “(The weather forecasters) got it right for today, and here we are,” said Julie Leunig. Before that, “We went fishing in the rain at Corson’s Inlet,” she said of husband Carl, son Wesley and daughter Ellie. “We played skee-ball, and did the indoor rides at Wonderland,” she said. “We also ate a whole lot of pizza.” It was fortunate the locals and visitors were able to get in some fun when they did, as clouds moved back in, a band of torrential rains hit OC once again around 6:30 p.m. Cindy and Bob Clark of Norristown PA face off against Rachel Lizzie and Jordan Lichty in a game of Kubb.
