The Philadelphia Blue Flame came out on top of The New York Strongest Saturday afternoon at Carey Stadium. This win marked the conclusion of the Blue Flame and NPSFL regular season. The National Public Safety Football League, which began in 1996, consist of 22 clubs made up of local public service personal representing metro areas across the country. The Blue Flame represent the fire fighting and police departments in the Philadelphia area and faced off against the Strongest, representing the New York Department of Sanitization.
The Blue Flame found themselves on top early with a seven point lead at the end of the first quarter. However, after a hard fought and chippy 2nd quarter, in which the Strongest defense dominated, the Blue Flame were down, 14-7, heading into the locker room. The Blue Flame mounted a strong rebound after being all but shut down at the end of the first half. Led by a stifling defensive effort and a strong rush, the Blue Flame went up 27-14 by the end of the third. The Strongest took advantage of a Blue Flame offensive lull and squeaked out a touchdown with plenty of time left in the fourth quarter. After a botched extra point by the Strongest, the Blue Flame held an uncomfortable 27- 20 lead. With a shift in momentum, the Strongest seemed primed to tie it up before the end of the game. However, after holding off two long drives by the Strongest, the Blue Flame iced the game with a long rushing TD with just over a minute left on the clock. The Strongest were unable to put together a desperation drive, and The Blue Flame came away with the win, 34-20.
The Philadelphia Blue Flame sit atop their division with a 4-0 record after today’s win. They will face off against the second ranked team later on in the month for the NSPFL Championship (Site and Time TBD). Please check out the included pictures and highlight video to get a look at
