Blue skies and beautiful water set the scene for the 15th Chip Miller Surfest. The annual and staple Ocean City summer surf contest took place on 6th Street Beach Friday morning right at the end of a stellar week of gorgeous weather on the island. After a lucky swell brought some of the best surf in contest history a year ago, this year's competition was held in knee high sets, a regularity for summertime South Jersey. This didn’t scare away any competition with contestants and families showing up, once again to surf and support a great cause.
The Surf Fest belongs to a series of events in association with the Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation. The foundation started in memory of Chip, raises money to spread awareness for early detection and helps fund research of the rare disease. The surf contest had heats for all ages. The groms being the youngest division along with boys, girls, and adult sections. Local professional surfers were in attendance and got into the action as well. The contest was just a part of an all day event, with local and national corporate partners donating for giveaways and other exciting prizes. It’s a busy week for the Chip Miller Foundation in Ocean City this week. Following the surf contest, there was a fundraiser that took place Friday night at the Water Park. Next week, the 2nd Annual Chip Miller Skate Contest will take place at the Ocean City Skatepark at 5th and Asbury Avenue.
