This is Ocean City Boy Scout Troop 32’s second annual Super Chili Bowl. They planned it to coincide with the Super Bowl weekend. It is a fun community event that is an important fundraiser for their troop.
Troop 32 is a year-round adventure-based program, which emphasizes in character building, enhancing their leadership skills and citizenship awareness through community participation.
The Troop was placed into a lottery and selected over hundreds of competing Boy Scout Troops across America to attend the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico in August 2018. It is one of four high adventure bases owned by the Boys Scouts of America, but it is also the original high adventure area and considered the pinnacle of one’s scouting career for anyone who has attended. Philmont is the world’s largest youth camp, consisting of 140,171 acres, or about 220 square miles. There are 315 miles of trails, 35 staffed backcountry camps and 770 campsites. Over 22,000 Scouts and Leaders are expected to go on 7 to 12-day treks during the summer. Every day, 350 Scouts arrive, 350 leave and 3,500 are hiking in the backcountry.
The boys are raising funds to help with this trip, and other camping adventures they go on. This year alone they have camped in Gettysburg to see the battlefield, NY State to see the Intrepid, Egg Harbor City Lake for the Klondike, Hawk Mountain, PA, and Annual Summer Camp. They’ve attended a Flyers game to present the Flag, and the Philadelphia Union soccer game and camp-out night. They hiked 20 miles along the Ocean Drive, hiked parts of the Appalachian Trail, and have gone zip-lining, and rock wall climbing.
As you can see they are an extremely active group of Boy Scouts, and most importantly the boys are setting goals that they are working towards with merit badges. Boy Scout Troop 32 members are active community contributors that Ocean City can be proud of.
Please come out and support our boys, while enjoying the best chili that our local chefs can prepare.
Pay at the Door.
