Ocean City Historical Museum Reaches Milestone with 10,000th Visitor

Just after 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, the unsuspecting Golluber family of Oreland, Pa., stopped into the Ocean City Historical Museum. The museum staffers exploded in celebration and fanfare as they awarded Jonathan Golluber his prize package for being the 10,000th visitor in 2018. Jonathan was accompanied by his wife, Lisa, their two boys, Lucas and Cody, and their dog, Luna. They had finalized the purchase of a summer home and wanted to check out some of the local attractions. They had never been to the museum before, and said now they are sure to be back. As the 10,000^th visitor, Jonathan Golluber won a bucket of Johnson’s Popcorn, a box of Shriver’s salt water taffy, a museum logo mug, a museum T-shirt, a copy of Harold Lee’s book "A History of Ocean City" and balloons. “Special thanks go out to all our visitors this year who helped us reach this new milestone,” said Jeff McGranahan, the museum's executive director. "It is a great honor to work for an organization which the community supports so much. Every year, I think we won't top last year's visitation numbers, but we do.” McGranahan noted that in 2016, the museum celebrated its 9,000th annual visitor on the last day of the year. “Who knows where we will end up by Dec. 31, 2018," he said. Since 1964, the Ocean City Historical Museum has been Ocean City’s home for history. “With the help of the City of Ocean City and hundreds of people near and far, we operate a museum all year long that works to preserve Ocean City’s history and share our wonderful stories with the world,” McGranahan said.
