A new 640 area code is being added to the southern New Jersey region currently serviced by area code 609. This change will require new dialing procedures effective Saturday, according to a press release.The change will require an area code to be dialed for all local calls. The change is necessary because of the increasing number of telephone numbers in our area. Some other preparations for the new dialing procedure might include the following:-- Update the speed dial numbers in fax machines to assure that those locations will be reached.
