Dear Friends,
I want to thank all of the event organizers and volunteers, public safety personnel, boat captains, bayfront home owners, grand marshals, residents and guests for making last weekend’s Night in Venice celebration such a safe and festive event. Preparing for the weekend is a massive undertaking, and I’m proud to see this Ocean City tradition continue.
I was also happy to see so many cars filling the newly striped parking spaces at the former car dealership lot next to the Ocean City Community Center. I want to thank the owners of the property again for making this accommodation, and I want to let you all know that the city continues to pursue the purchase of the lot for municipal purposes.
Our projects team met again yesterday with the contractor and sub-contractors for the Fourth Ward neighborhood drainage project. Their work to install pumping stations continues on the grounds of the Ocean City Municipal Airport, and they are expected to deliver to me next week a detailed timeline for the remainder of the entire project.
The north end neighborhood drainage project continues to make great progress with multiple pipe, concrete and paving crews working simultaneously. Residents can follow the latest updates at
www.ocnj.us/NorthEnd.
I want to remind you that tax bills for the August quarter have now been mailed. There is a 27-day grace period for this quarter, so payments must be received by August 27.
See more information.
The 109th annual Ocean City Baby Parade will return as a morning event at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9. Registration is open to all families with children under age 10 who would like to participate. Visit
www.ocnj.us/babyparade to sign up. Because of the parade, biking hours on the boardwalk will end at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
I also want to remind you all that the volunteers from Bike OCNJ will hold their annual public forum at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Howard S. Stainton Senior Center within the Ocean City Community Center. The group will share updates on the continuing improvements to our tip-to-tip, north-to-south bicycle corridor.
Warm regards,
Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
