Mayor Jay Gillian’s re-election bid received an injection of energy Sunday as more than 75 campaign workers and supporters gathered for a luncheon/rally at the Ferguson-Foglio VFW hall on Bay Avenue.
Gillian said it was gratifying “to see so many friends here to show their support.”
Those who braved miserable weather conditions to attend heard words of encouragement from the Mayor and from campaign staff members. They also enjoyed a luncheon buffet while trading stories about working on Gillian’s campaign.
Jay Gillian for Mayor supporters enjoy yesterday’s campaign rally at the Ferguson-Fogli Post 6650 in Ocean City. From left are Gussie Hauf, Salie Eachus, Al Eachus, Judy Kelley, Dale Braun, CMC Freeholder Marie Hayes and Rich Fluri.
“Jay has done a great job and deserves the opportunity to continue on with his agenda,” one worker said. “Things are moving in a great direction in town and now is not the time to reverse course.”
The Mayor will face former Ocean City Councilman John Flood in the election on May 8. Flood was elected to City Council twice, serving eight years from 1988 to 1996; and again, as an appointee to finish out the term of Susan Sheppard in 2011 when Sheppard, now a superior court judge, stepped down upon her election as Cape May County Surrogate.
Scott Halliday and grandson Michael were on hand for Mayor Jay Gillian’s campaign rally on Sunday.
