Dear Friends,
I’m sad to note the passing of two outstanding Ocean City citizens.
Margaret Trofa died last week with her family at her side. She was an Ocean City High School graduate who later returned to the district to work as a school nurse. She was also an important part of her family businesses in town and raised three daughters and an extended family in the community. Tom Ang passed away yesterday surrounded by his own family. Tom was a Navy and World War II veteran who served 38 years with the Ocean City Fire Department, retiring as a captain. He is the father of Ocean City Police Capt. Steve Ang.
Margaret and Tom were both fortunate to live long and rich lives and are great examples of the residents who give back to their community. Michele and I extend our deepest condolences to all their family and friends.
We turned the Route 52 bridge lights blue as Villanova won the NCAA basketball title earlier this week, but they will remain royal blue throughout the month in recognition of national Autism Awareness Month. I hope this can be a reminder of the importance of accepting and appreciating the many individuals in our community who live with autism and the families who support them.
I want to remind you again about a Town Hall Meeting to present our 2018-2019 bayside dredging plans. I encourage anybody with an interest in the dredging of public or private areas on the bay side of Ocean City to attend. The meeting will be 10 a.m. April 28 at the Ocean City Tabernacle. Representatives of ACT Engineers and the city team will be on hand to provide details on this year’s plans, the status of a citywide permit and on long-term initiatives to maintain navigable waterways.
Miss America Cara Mund will visit Ocean City for Girls Weekend. She will co-host tonight’s Fashion Show at Glazed Over and return for a free meet-and-greet from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday (April 8) at Jon and Patty’s. I’d like to welcome everybody who came to town for this weekend’s event and invite you all to enjoy everything that our wonderful downtown has to offer.
