On July 24, 2016, just 2 weeks away from Halley giving birth to Charlie, Teudy suffered a fractured neck (C6 level) after jumping into the ocean at Brigantine beach. After undergoing a 6-hour surgery, the doctors were able to stabilize his neck and remove the pressure to his spinal cord. Because of the damage to the spinal cord, Teudy lost all function and movement from the chest down, leaving him a quadriplegic. Baby Charlie Rafael was born healthy and strong on August 16th - with Teudy there via video call from his own hospital room.
Teudy spent 10 weeks as an inpatient at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia where he worked hard in physical and occupational therapy 5 days a week. After discharge, he returned home to Ocean City NJ with his family and has been on a slow and steady road to recovery. Transitioning to the changes in their life has had many challenges. The way they have come together in their marriage and how they support each other is simply inspiring. Teudy is now receiving therapy through “Project Walk”, a paralysis recovery center that offers intense activity-based therapy to try to recover the nerves and muscles to function again. It is privately owned and not covered under insurance. 
Without this fundraiser effort, his treatment cannot continue!
