The Fire Report reads as follow:
"
5222 Simpson Avenue Structure Fire 3-15-2017
On Wednesday evening, March 15
th, the Ocean City Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire, 2 story wood frame building, at 5222 Simpson Avenue. Engine #3 arrived on scene minutes after the call was received and reported heavy fire on the first and second floors. Engine 2, Deputy Chief 1, Engine 1 and Truck 1 arrived on scene.
Engine 3 established a water supply and began to protect the building to the North of the fire building, within minutes all OCFD units were working and had 4 attack handlines in operation. OCFD crews were able to protect the exposure property to the North, containing the fire to the original fire building, and knock down the majority of visible fire within minutes. Crews encountered heavy winds and icy conditions which made initial fire suppression operations very difficult.
A full fire department recall was initiated along with automatic aid responses from Margate FD, Marmora FD and Upper Township Rescue Squads.
Due to the heavy winds the fire quickly spread throughout the structure.
The fire was placed under control and overhaul operations were perform approximately 60 minutes after the initial call was dispatched.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire being dispatched.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation."
It is a blessing that there were no reported injuries at this time.
OCNJ Daily would like to thank the OCFD for doing an extraordinary job in safely keeping this raging fire contained to just one home!
