Surfers began paddling out on 7
th street early in the morning for the 14th annual Chip Miller Surf Fest. Originally scheduled for Friday, weather forced the event organizers to move the summertime surf extravaganza to Sunday. Despite the date change, the surfers were rewarded with unusually lucky conditions for summer time New Jersey.
The Chip Miller Surf Fest has become a centerpiece surfing event in Ocean City, starting in 2004, and is amongst the largest East Coast surf events. The Surf Fest belongs to a series of events held by the Chip Miller Foundation, which raises funds to support those affected by Amyloidosis and their families, as well as fund research on the disease. With continued participation through the years, including local and corporate support, The Chip Miller Surf Fest has become what it is today.
The Surf Fest is an all-day event for the whole family, with the surf contest as its main attraction. Age divisions for both genders allow for fair and fun competitions in which the youngest surfers and most experienced have the opportunity to show off in front of a packed beach. In addition, the local pro division brings area legends out to compete.
