Deacon Joseph P. Orlando of Ocean City, NJ

Deacon Joseph P. Orlando (69) of Ocean City NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19th 2017 surrounded by his family.  Born in Philadelphia on January 21th 1948.  Son of Joseph & Rose Orlando.  He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen M. Orlando (Lamb) of Ocean City NJ and his Sons & Daughters in Law; Joseph J. Orlando, Sean & Natalie Orlando, Christopher & Dawn Orlando, and Michael & Lisa Orlando. Also survived by his 8 Grandchildren; Christian, Angelina, Antonio, Gianni, Michael, Sophia, Annaliese, Ella and by his sister Joyce Silversteen.  He will be sadly missed by his many nieces & nephews. Joseph is a 1965 graduate of George Washington High School and attended Temple University. He was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood PA on June 4th
2000. He formerly served at St. Bede the Venerable in Holland PA, Assumption BVM in Trevose PA and was currently serving at St. Augustine’s in Ocean City NJ. Formerly employed by American Electronic Laboratories in Colmar PA and retired from IBM in 2001. He was also a former business manager at St. Bede the Venerable in Holland PA where he coordinated expansion plans of the school, rectory and recreation center. Deacon Joe dedicated his life in service to others. At St. Augustine’s, he was the Director of Liturgy, served on the Bereavement Committee, taught RCIA and CCD, and participated in the planning of Liturgy for the Camden Diocese. In the community, he participated in the Ocean City Ethics Board, the Ocean City Ecumenical Council and was a member of the Ocean City Ministerium.  He traveled to New Orleans to provide disaster relief after Hurricane Katrina and volunteered his time with Cape May County Prison, South Jersey Hope, the Boy Scouts of America, Marriage Encounter, Pre-Cana, the CYO, Comprehensive Learning Center in Southampton, PA and the Knights of Columbus. Throughout Deacon Joe’s life, he had a direct impact and influence on a countless number of people. He was unwavering in his love and dedication to his wife and family. Visitation on Sunday evening, February 26th from 5:00PM – 8:00PM and Monday Morning February 27th from 10AM – 11AM.  Mass of Christian burial immediately following at St. Augustine’s Church of St Damien Parish, 13th at Wesley Avenue, Ocean City, NJ 08226.
