Visitors were encouraged to bring non-perishable food or make cash donations for needy citizens.
Many of them were tourists from throughout the United States but more than a few were neighbors. “I’ve lived here 50 years,” one curious visitor was overheard remarking, “and this is the first time I’ve ever been on the pier.”
The event, part of the city’s Family Night on the Boardwalk, was the second one of the 2017 summer season. No more are scheduled this year.
