William "Doc" Gannon Slaughter, Jr. of Palermo

William "Doc" Gannon Slaughter, Jr. of Palermo and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, ended his watch and passed peacefully into eternal life on Sunday, November 27, 2016. Doc was raised in Elk Forest, Maryland until he moved to Ocean City in 1965. Doc was an Ocean City Fire Department Captain and Local #27 member from 1977 until his retirement in 2006. He also owned Slaughter Marble and Tile for many years. Doc was recognized as a dedicated Special Olympic Coach and volunteer from 1998 until his health deteriorated recently. In 2001, Doc was the recipient of the Keith Denn Memorial Volunteer Award in recognition of his untiring efforts and dedication. He was responsible for organizing the Ocean City Fire Department's annual volunteer participation in the Special Olympic Area 8 Swim Meet at the Ocean City Aquatic Center, which continues to this day. Doc is pre-deceased by his parents, Mary McDugall Slaughter and William Gannon Slaughter. He is also pre-deceased by his brothers, Thomas Slaughter and Kevin Slaughter. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughter, Rachel Slaughter, and her Mother, Eileen Ward, his sisters, twin Maryann Slaughter (Floyd Morrow) and Leddy Slaughter; and his brother David Slaughter (Marian); eight nieces and nephews and too many friends to count. Doc's Memorial Service will be held on Saturday December 3, 2016 at 2:00PM at The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ 08223, were friends may visit from 1:00PM to 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the OC Stingrays Special Olympic Swim Team. Checks should be made payable to the Patricia Palmerio Memorial Fund and sent to The OC Aquatic and Fitness Center, 1735 Simpson Avenue, Suite 1, Ocean City, New Jersey, 08226 to the attention of Coach Karen Pratz.
