Lydon, Edward John., Sr. 85 of Ocean City, NJ was granted the grace of a peaceful passing Friday, October 28, 2016 at his home.
Born in and formerly of the Mayfair Section in Philadelphia, PA, he attended St. Matthew’s grade school and graduated from North Catholic High School, Phila., PA, Class of 1948. He spent most of his adult life in Churchville, PA before moving to Ocean City, NJ in 1995.
Mr. Lydon was a Veteran of the United States Navy receiving his honorable discharge in 1953.
Ed was a 60-year Malvern Retreatant, NFL Alumni Member, Phila., Eagles Season Ticket holder since 1956, and accomplished musician. He loved all sports, fishing, and golf.
Ed was the owner and operator of Royal Factories in Philadelphia, PA for 17 years retiring in 2001. Mr. Lydon was Past President of Fairness in Taxes in Ocean City, NJ and Ocean City Mayoral candidate in 1998, and was an active Lector and Eucharist Minister at St. Damien Parish in Ocean City, NJ.
Surviving are his forever bride Mary Agnes T. “Maggie” Lydon (nee Landgrebe) of Ocean City, NJ, seven children, Joan Ann Cahill (Mark) of Perkasie, PA, Jackie McCollum (David) of Perkasie, PA, Jean Perry (John) of Ottsville, PA, Janet Shuhart (Harvey) of Doylestown, PA, Jill Rieder (Mike) of Telford, PA, Julie M. Pilkerton (Paul) of Warminster, PA, E. J. Lydon, Jr. (Margie) of Horsham, PA, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three sisters, Beatrice R. Adshead of Palm Harbor, FL, Marylou Weckerly (Harry) of Philadelphia, PA, Suzanne Olsen (Denny) of Sewell, NJ and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Beatrice Lydon, his daughter, baby Joyce Lydon, and his sister, Dorothy Bricarrell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday morning November 4th, 2016 at half past ten o’clock from Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church of St. Damien Parish, 40th Street at Central Avenue, Ocean City, NJ. Friends may call Thursday evening November 3rd, 2016 from six until eight o’clock and Friday morning from nine o’clock until 10:15 am. Burial will follow mass in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo, NJ.
