H. Lloyd Hayes Announces At-Large Bid
Long-time Ocean City resident, U.S. Navy Veteran, teacher, swimming coach, and school board member H. Lloyd Hayes turned in his nominating petitions Monday, March 7, to run for City Council-At-Large in the May municipal election.
“I’ve spent the last 3-1/2 decades devoting my time serving the residents of this city with unwavering commitment – the same commitment I plan to bring to City Council,” said Hayes. “This will be my full-time job and focus,” added Hayes, who is retired.
Lloyd, 67 and a 28-year resident of Ocean City brings extensive experience to the ballot, having been a former small business owner for 23 years; and having spent 21 years as an Ocean City High School teacher. Hayes also served on the Ocean City School Board for six years. As member of the School Buildings & Grounds Committee, Lloyd participated in decisions regarding the new high school’s auditorium, and renovations to the intermediate and primary schools. He also led the charge for School Choice for Ocean City, which draws more than $2 million in revenue annually.
He said his top priorities for 2016 include addressing the island’s infrastructure to improve drainage issues that prevent flood waters from the bay and rain from receding rapidly; and to minimize tax increases.
