Dear Friends,
I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Memorial Day Ceremony, it was an excellent event. I would like to thank the Tabernacle for allowing us to use their facility during the inclement weather.
The city team met with representatives from South Jersey Gas today to outline a gas main replacement in the area of 8th to 9th street, between Atlantic Avenues and the boardwalk. The gas company will work Monday through Thursday the week of June 13 to 16 and June 20 to 23. We will try to keep intersection and road closures to a minimum, but obviously will make safety for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers our priority. This is an important project for this area to set the ground work for future projects and to improve gas service to our businesses and residences.
Work is progressing nicely on the window replacement on the first floor of City Hall. The entire project, including new doors on the 9th street entrance should be completed no later than the end of the month. We ask that you please “pardon our appearance” during construction. The NJ Historic Trust funded the majority of the design and construction work on this project.
The City was notified in May that we were awarded $195,000 in grants for a variety of post Sandy planning assistance. The grant total is a combination of five smaller grants for various planning documents, code development and permit assistance. This grant is the result of the combined work of City team members, the Planning Board and City Council.
I hope you have a great weekend.
Warm regards,
Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
