Dr. Desmond James Nunan, Jr. Passed away July 7, 2016 with family at his side. He suffered a fatal stroke on July 5, 2016. "Des" was born in West Chester, PA on October 21, 1954 to Gertrude "Dolly" (Falini) Nunan and Desmond James Nunan. Des was a 1972 graduate of William Allen High School, Allentown, PA. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 1976, Magna cum Laude, with a degree in Biochemistry. He achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor when he graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine five years later. Des helped and saved countless lives as he worked as an emergency medicine physician for 35 years. He was a hard worker, gifted athlete, fierce competitor and, above all, a kind, loveable soul. He served on the Ocean City Beach Patrol as a lifeguard during his high school and college years. Des traveled the globe participating in Ironman Triathlons, consistently achieving stellar rankings and winning the 2001 world championship. He passed his love of sports on to his four children who also excel academically and athletically in the Ocean City Schools. Des was loved by so very many in the community. His sudden departure from this life will leave an immense void in the lives of family and friends. Des is survived by his children: Daughter Lyndsay Severs, wife of Chad Severs and two grandchildren, Landon and Lacey Severs of Marmora; Amanda Nunan, Daniel Nunan and Matthew Nunan of Ocean City; three brothers: Christopher Nunan, wife Cindy and niece Nicole of Ocean City; Peter Nunan, wife Lisa, and nephew Michael of Monte Sereno, CA; Aidan Nunan of Ocean City; sister Julie Maloney of Marmora and, niece Maura Maloney of Philadelphia, as well as many beloved cousins in Pennsylvania, New York and California. Des was in a loving relationship with Tammy Lynn Cresswell at the time of his death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 11 o’clock from Our Lady of Good Counsel R. C. Church of St. Damien Parish, 40
th Street at Asbury Avenue, Ocean City, NJ where friends may call from 9 until 10:45.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Des' name can be made to the Charity of your choosing.
