lou-sue-4 By Mike DeVlieger As 2016 comes to a close, my thoughts start to focus on my resolutions and goals for 2017. While weight loss and good health will be in the mix, they hardly seem like enough. Reflecting on the topic earlier today, I went to a resource that I often use for guidance and inspiration. I could score some points with my pastor if I said it was my Bible (I do keep mine handy), but it was another source.  This one was put together by my nine brothers and sisters and me just before my father passed away eleven years ago. It is a list of “Classic Quotes” that my father used to say to us on very predictable occasions.  My father felt strongly about guiding us in our faith, while also training us to survive and thrive in the world.

This picture was taken just after super storm Sandy. The home has been in my family for just over 50 years. We promised him that these quotes and more would be taught to our children and anyone else that would listen. My point in sharing this is: let’s set goals this year that will mean something someday. The tiniest lessons taught to our children may someday be what steers them in the right direction in a time of crisis. Most people at one time or another face challenges mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, and/or spiritually. louis-f-devlieger-classic-quotes My father's "Classic Quotes" were his lessons on life. While some may seem edgy and outdated, they were all relevant at the time. Let us plan to do things in 2017 that someday will be reflected on for guidance. Wishing you all the best with your list.
