Dear Friends,
I want to remind you all that Ocean City on Monday was named the No. 1 Beach in America. More than 100,000 people across the country voted for us, affirming that we truly are "America's Greatest Family Resort." Coastal Living Magazine sponsored the contest and we will be featured in the June 2016 issue and in an online package.
It’s an honor to know that so many people across the country think we’re the best. The contest included the top beaches in 30 different states, including Hawaii and California. We’ll be planning a celebration and news conference to coincide with the “unlocking of the ocean” next month.
I’d also like to invite everybody to a ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday (April 16) to dedicate Mark Soifer Park.
The park honors Mark, who will retire at the end of the year after a 45-year career with the city. The dedication takes place before the Doo Dah Parade, one of the many events Soifer brought to Ocean City. The celebration also will include the unveiling of a new sign and plaque.
I hope you all will come out to honor Mark and stick around for the parade, which starts at noon on downtown Asbury Avenue and ends on the boardwalk at the Music Pier. Please visit our many shops and restaurants in the downtown and on the boardwalk while you enjoy the parade. The forecast calls for a sunny day, and it should be a great start to the season.
Warm regards,
Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
