Saturday's Railroad Run Yields Gold for Robbers

  • News
Tom Resch wins the third annual Ocean City Historical Museum Railroad Run on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015. Tom Resch, 66, won the third annual Ocean City Historical Museum 5-Kilometer Railroad Run on Saturday in 26:30. Greg Merritt was second place, and Carrie Scheetz was third overall and the top female finisher. A small field of runners enjoyed perfect conditions with cool air temperatures and light wind. The race follows a 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) out-and-back course along Haven Avenue, which was the old railroad right-of-way serving Ocean City. There was a historical twist to the race this year: "Robbers" lurked in a danger zone to steal gold. (Runners wore a belt carrying removable gold strips.) The runners this year were not equal to the robbers, who stripped the field of every last piece of gold. The race benefitted the
museum, which is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday with extended hours on Thursday evenings to 7 p.m.
