Robbers May Interrupt 5K Railroad Run on Saturday in O.C.

  • Things To Do
The out-and-back course for the Railroad Run on Oct. 17 in Ocean City, NJ, follows Haven Avenue, roughly between 18th and 32nd streets. The Ocean City Historical Museum’s third annual 5-kilometer Railroad Run/Walk will follow the path of the island’s old railroad right-of-way down Haven Avenue on Saturday, Oct. 17. There will be a historical twist to the race this year: Robbers will be lurking in a danger zone to steal your gold. (Runners will be invited to wear a belt carrying paper bag-of-gold icons, and they'll have to avoid the robbers.) Bags of treats will be available for kids. The event is designed to be fun for the whole family. Registration is $20 per adult and $10 for children under 12. Registration forms may be picked up at the museum located in the Ocean City Community Center (17th Street and Simpson Avenue), at the kiosks in the Community Center, and at the Welcome Center on the Route 52 causeway. Race-day registration begins at 8 a.m. Saturday in the Stainton Senior Center (18th Street side of the Community Center), and the race starts at 9 a.m., rain or shine. The race follows a 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) out-and-back course along Haven Avenue, skirting the Howard Stainton Wildlife Refuge. The course is flat and more sheltered from the wind than the boardwalk races. The event benefits the museum. Call the museum at 609-399-1801 or email
