Hurless, 47, is accused of entering the coffee shop on Friday morning (Nov. 6) and brandishing a knife, according to Ocean City Police Capt. Steve Ang.
He allegedly forced a store employee to empty the cash register's contents. Video surveillance captured the incident, alleged images of Hurless, and the bike he used to get away on, Ang said.
A neighborhood search by members of the Ocean City Police Department located the bike, Ang said. Hurless had just been released from state prison on Oct. 21, after serving 10 years for armed robbery, according to N.J. Department of Corrections records.
This case is being investigated by the Ocean Police Department, Detective Bureau.
Hurless was arrested at his residence on the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue, after a search warrant was executed by members of the Cape May County Regional Swat Team and the Ocean City Police Department.
After the arrest, Hurless was lodged in the Cape May County Jail on bail of $150,000.
He is charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and other weapons offenses, according to Ang.
