An Ocean City Winter That Won't Let Go: More Snow on Way

  • News
National Weather Service snowfall predictions call for 4 to 6 inches of snow in Ocean City on Thursday (March 5).
National Weather Service snowfall predictions call for 4 to 6 inches of snow in Ocean City on Thursday (March 5). After the fourth-coldest February in recorded history, March is not offering much more for the region. A full smorgasbord of wintry weather is in store through the rest of the week — including what could be 4 to 6 inches of snow on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Sleet on Tuesday afternoon forced the postponement of an Ocean City High School girls' basketball playoff game (it will be made up 6 p.m. Wednesday in Ocean City), and rain is expected to fall through Wednesday as the temperature climbs as high as 46 degrees. But an inch of snow and sleet could fall Wednesday night before the temperatures dip squarely below freezing. New snow accumulation of another 3 to 5 inches could fall through the day on Thursday in Ocean City, according to the NWS forecast. Then the big freeze returns on Friday with a high of 25 degrees and a low of 13 degrees. Full-moon tides arrive at 7:53 a.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Thursday when north winds will be blowing 20 to 30 mph. The Weather Service has issued no flood warnings, but residents of low-lying streets may want to keep an eye out for rising water.
