Seventy-five years ago, July 4, 1940, Ocean City lifeguards, dressed in their ceremonial uniforms, raised the American flag and international signal code flags for the first time to the top of a newly erected 50-foot steel flagpole in front of the Music Pier.

Thursday, July 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Christopher Maloney Lecture Hall in the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Avenue. This will be the first of the Ocean City Historical Museum’s weekly Summer Lecture Series. All are welcome and admission is free.
