Crowds lined the Ocean City Boardwalk on Wednesday evening to get a glimpse of the 28 contestants in the Miss New Jersey Pageant.
A parade from Fifth Street to 14th Street on the boardwalk featured the young women who are competing to represent New Jersey in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City in September.
Clear skies and warm temperatures made for ideal conditions for the event. The contestants dressed as characters from literature as part of the "Pages Through the Ages" theme. They also responded to the traditional pageant call of "show us your shoes."
The pageant's preliminary competitions will be held Thursday and Friday (June 11 and 12) with the finals and crowning on Saturday (June 13) at the Ocean City Music Pier.
Former Miss New Jersey Dena Blizzard will emcee the pageant. A TV and radio personality, Blizzard is now touring with her hilarious show, “One Funny Mother.”
