Two Beaches Reopen to Swimming After Tests

  • News
A Cape May County Health Department sign prohibited swimming in the ocean between the Fifth Street and Seventh Street jetties in Ocean City, NJ, on Thursday, July 30. The beaches between the Fifth Street and Seventh Street jetties in Ocean City are back open to swimming on Friday morning (July 31). They were closed briefly on Thursday as a precaution after a small amount of wastewater overflowed from the public restroom on the boardwalk at Sixth Street. The Cape May County Department of Health took water samples from the ocean and reopened the beaches Friday morning when the test results showed no problems.
Ocean City Business Administrator Jim Mallon said Thursday that work crews installing benches on the boardwalk near the restroom noticed the discharge immediately and shut down the water supply until the backed-up pipe was cleared. All other Ocean City beaches are open.
