Mayor Jay Gillian: Historic District Workshop on July 16

  • News
Ocean City's Historic District covers an area roughly between Third and Eighth streets, Central and Ocean avenues. The following is Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian’s
weekly update to citizens posted on Thursday, July 2.
Dear Friends: Today the NJ Sea Grant Consortium recognized Ocean City as New Jersey’s #1 beach in their annual Top Ten Best Beaches contest. In addition to Best Beach, Ocean City won first place in the categories for Best Destination for Family Vacation, Day Trip and Ecotourism. This is the second year in a row that we have swept first place in all of the categories. All of the communities who were recognized today should be very proud, because the more we work together the more successful we are. I would like to thank City Council, the Tourism Development Commission, the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce and the City team for working in partnership to promote Ocean City. The results of this contest speak volumes about how people love Ocean City. On July 16, City Council will be holding a workshop to discuss possible changes to the Historic District Ordinance. The workshop will start at 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers. Representatives from the State of New Jersey Historic Preservation office and the Ocean City Historic Preservation Commission will be present. No formal action will be taken at this meeting, however this is an important meeting for anyone who lives or has interest in the district. The proposed changes to the ordinance can be found HERE (proposed changes are in red). I would like to thank everyone who attended the town hall meeting on bay dredging last Saturday. City Council and I appreciate you taking the time to listen, and for providing great ideas to move forward. I also thank Councilman Wilson for his service as Council President and congratulate Councilman Hartzell on his appointment July 1 as Council President. I look forward to continued positive working relationship with City Council. I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe July 4 weekend! Warm regards, Jay A. Gillian Mayor
