Not a flake of snow had fallen in Ocean City by 9:15 p.m., and just hours after forecasters had predicted as much as 14 inches of snow for the region, they started to suggest as little as one inch.
The track of a fickle storm system appears to be farther out to sea than originally anticipated, sparing southern New Jersey the worst of what could be a blizzard for New England.
After a few morning snowflakes, light precipitation turned to rain on Monday morning in Ocean City.
The rain and wind grew stronger through the day.
The Ocean City School District announced the following schedule changes in the morning and later announced that all schools will be closed on Tuesday (Jan 27).
The Ocean City Free Public Library and its computer center also will be closed Tuesday.
High School:
- Boys & Girls Varsity onlybasketball game versus Lower Cape Regional – both of these games will start at 5pm
- No track meet today at Tom’s River
- Sport practices will conclude at 6pmor earlier (wrestling/track/swimming)
- School clubs/Activities canceled
- 4pm & 6pmlate buses still running
Intermediate School:
- All activities cancelled for this afternoon
- All sports cancelled for this afternoon
The Ocean City Police Department issued a reminder that all parked vehicles must be removed from West Avenue between North Street and 59th Street if snow covers the roadway. The thoroughfare is a snow emergency route.
