Ocean City will seek bids to restore the pier and boat slips destroyed by Superstorm Sandy on the bay at Second Street.
City Council holds its next public meeting 7 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 8) in Council Chambers on the third floor of City Hall.
Here are agenda items that might be of interest:
Bayside Park and Marina: City Council will consider a resolution to seek bids from contractors who can complete bulkhead improvements. The work would replace the bulkhead at the Tennessee Avenue boat ramp (near 22nd Street) and also restore the south pier in the public park on the bay at Second Street. The pier was destroyed in Superstorm Sandy, and work would include replacing boat slips, power and water. The city abandoned a plan for a public-private partnership to run a marina there.
Dredging: Council will consider a resolution seeking bids from companies that can remove dredge spoils from a site near the 34th Street causeway. The site is approved for future projects that could help deepen lagoons and boating channels, but it is at capacity. Ocean City has an agreement with Wildwood that would allow them to truck dredge material there to cap a landfill.
Special Improvement District: City Council will vote on the second reading of a $311,448 budget for Ocean City’s three Special Improvement Districts (SIDs). The SIDs include the retail section of the Ocean City Boardwalk, the downtown section of Asbury Avenue and the gateway section of Ninth Street. The budget is funded by assessments on businesses in the districts (based on storefront footage) and by revenue from events. The budget goes to marketing, beautification and promoting special events. (See

for detail on the budget.)
Café Contracts: City Council will vote to solicit bids on running the cafes at the Ocean City Municipal Airport and Ocean City Community Center.
Beach Paths: Council will vote to award a contract to Action Supply Inc. of Seaville to provide soil to make beach entrances more accessible at $14.25 per ton for 500 to 2,000 tons.
City Planner: Council will vote to renew a professional services contract with Scheule Planning Solutions (Randy Scheule).
Appointments: Council will vote to approve the mayor's appointment of Carol Frank as a member of the Tourist Development Commission, Vicki Scheetz as a member of the Local Assistance Board, and Annmarie Chelius, David Eisele, Tony Galante, Jeff Heywood, Ashley McGuigan, Robert Monczewski, Denise Szymanski, Robert Farnsworth, Gerald Gheen, Don Smedley, Kathryn Sykes, Jeffrey Thren and Christine Zellers as members of the Advisory Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
