A couple hundred people turned out on a cold February night to attend a scholarship fundraiser for the Ocean City High School surf team at the Ocean City Yacht Club on Saturday.
Event organizers are still counting proceeds, but Christine Wilson said it was an overwhelming success.
All money raised from the event will go toward scholarships for senior surf team members who are bound for college or the military.
Wilson said the event was made possible through the generous donations of:
- The Ocean City Yacht Club, which provided the venue
- The SSP's, a Somers Point-based cover band that donated a night of great rock music
- Mike Lukens, one of the founders of the fundraiser, who shaped a custom wooden board as a prize
- Heritage Surf and Sport, which donated a short board as a prize

- Surfers Supplies, which donate another surfboard to be awarded an April 26 fundraiser at DiOrio's Cafe in Somers Point
- 7th Street Surf Shop, which donated a winter wetsuit
- Other businesses that donated prizes
- The Chip Miller Charitable Foundation, which donated $1,000
- A number of individuals from the Ocean City community who made generous personal donations
