Ocean City firefighters respond to an apartment fire on the 1500 block of Simpson Avenue that left one man with life-threatening burns on Wednesday (Feb. 18).
An Ocean City man was transferred overnight to Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment of life-threatening burns suffered in a fire Wednesday night in Ocean City.
The Ocean City Fire Department responded to a call at the brick Harbour Isle Apartments complex on the 1500 block of Simpson Avenue at 10:32 p.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters were talking to the caller in an upstair unit when they realized the downstairs unit was on fire, according to Fire Chief Chris Breunig.
They forced the back door open and found the lone occupant of the home unconscious on a floor. He was treated by EMTs on location and transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Trauma Unit with severe burns.

Breunig said he will continue to monitor the condition of the victim, whom he did not identify.
Firefighters from two engines stretched a hose line through the front door to extinguish a fire, which was contained to the single unit.
Damage to the burned apartment is extensive, but it did not extend to neighboring units.
Breunig said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
One firefighter was transported to the hospital with mild smoke inhalation. He was treated and released, and is home resting, according to Breunig.
