Deactivated parking meters line Ocean Avenue in Ocean City, NJ. The meter heads were removed in early- to mid-October last year and did not return until May.
City Council has a
complete agenda for its public meeting 7 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, but here are a few items that might be of special interest:
- Yoga Studios in the Neighborhood Business Zone: Council will consider the first reading of an ordinance that would permit yoga and dance studios in the Neighborhood Business (NB) Zone. The zone includes parts of West Avenue (between Second and Fourth streets), 55th Street and other small pockets on the island.
- Parking Fee Changes: Council will consider changes to the ordinance that governs parking fees. One amendment would change the language that technically requires parking meters to be in effect through Oct. 31. The change would have meters in effect "no later than" Oct. 31. The city often begins to remove meter heads for the winter after the Fall Block Party on Columbus Day Weekend. The ordinance adds an unmetered lot on the multi-purpose field behind Carey Stadium (with the city finance director setting rules for if and when that field is used for parking). A complete list of the proposed changes (marked in red) are included in the PDF below.
- Elimination of Community Operations Department: City Council will hold a public hearing and second reading on a restructuring of city departments that would eliminate the new Department of Community Operations. Read more: Ocean City May Eliminate New Community Operations Department.
- Snug Harbor Dredging: City Council will consider awarding a $937,900 contract to Wickberg Marine Contracting of Belford, N.J. (the same company emptying “Site 83″ off Roosevelt Boulevard) to dredge Snug Harbor starting as early as Sept. 9. Read more: A Costly Quest to Unclog Ocean City Lagoons and Bayside
- Skate Park Fence: City Council will consider spending an extra $15,000 for a nicer fence around the new skateboard park under construction. The new fence would include black aluminum pickets.
