Ocean City Beach Sweep on Saturday Needs Volunteers

  • Things To Do
Patience Weaver, Hannah Whelan and Michael Foglio, ninth-graders in Ocean City High School's Key Club, help with the Fall Beach Sweep in October 2014. The City of Ocean City and Clean Ocean Action will sponsor the 30th annual Spring Beach Sweep 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25. All individuals, students, organizations and families are invited to join the semiannual “counted cleanup” sweep along the beaches in Ocean City. Clean Ocean Action uses data cards to record the litter collected and enters the information into a national database of marine debris. Participants form teams of two or three people to pick up and record the litter on the beach. Volunteers will be assigned to a beach and issued cleanup supplies and data cards. Check in is at the Ocean City Music Pier (on the Boardwalk between Eighth and Ninth streets) or at the 58th Street beach pavilion. For information regarding Ocean City’s Beach Sweep or to pre-register a group, please call 609-399-6111 ext. 9711 or email [email protected]. In addition, the Ocean City Environmental Commission and Clean Communities Organization are looking for volunteers to plant dune grass on Saturday, April 25 from
9a.m. to 1 p.m. at 11th Street Beach. Volunteers will meet at the 11th Street Children’s Pavilion on the boardwalk where they will receive information regarding Ocean City’s dune systems, dune grass seedlings, and planting equipment. All volunteers should wear appropriate clothing and footwear.  For more information or to register a group, please call 609-399-6111 ext 9799. Come out and participate in these two great Earth Week, family-friendly events this Saturday, April 25. — News release from the City of Ocean City
