Mayor Jay Gillian: Beachfill Projects Coming to Both Ends of O.C.

  • Things To Do
An Army Corps of Engineers contractor is staging equipment on the beach at 34th Street. It will be transported down the beach to the start of the beach replenishment project area just south of 42nd Street. The following is Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian’s weekly update to citizens
 posted on Friday, April 10.
Dear Friends: Last night, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the Army Corps of Engineers updated City Council on the South End beach replenishment project.  The project is set to begin next week, and if everything goes well, is expected to be finished in early July.  The dredge is presently on its way to Ocean City from Florida and equipment and piping has already been placed on the beach.  Once the project begins, daily updates will be provided by the Army Corps on the following website: www.nap.usace.army.mil/GET and the city will continue to provide information at www.ocnj.us/beachfill. We were also notified that a beach replenishment project for the north end of town is on track to begin later this year.  I will provide more information as it becomes available. I would like to thank the DEP and Army Corps representatives for their attendance last night and for their assistance on both projects. City Council also authorized the City to solicit bids to construct the skate park.  This project continues to move forward, and following the receipt and review of the bid proposals, City Council may be in position to consider awarding a construction contract as early as the next Council meeting. I hope you all have a great weekend! Warm regards, Jay A. Gillian Mayor
