Tropical Storm Edouard Won't Come Close to Ocean City

  • Things To Do
Edouard on Thursday became the Atlantic Ocean's fifth named tropical storm of 2014, but the forecasted track for the storm remains far from the East Coast of the United States and will likely have no effect. At 5 p.m. Friday, Edouard had sustained winds of 45 mph and was still more than 1,200 miles east of the Leeward Islands. The National Hurricane Center expects the storm to strengthen to hurricane status by the end of the weekend. But the projected track travels northward over open water in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The storm likely will be too distant to generate major surf in Ocean City, though some long-period swell is possible.
