Flood Warning on Full Moon Tide Continues on Tuesday

  • News
A strong northeast wind churns up the surf at the south end of Ocean City, NJ, on Tuesday morning, Sept. 9, 2014. The National Weather Service on Monday issued a coastal flood advisory that remains in effect for Ocean City through 1 a.m. Wednesday. The moon was full on Monday night and is expected to cause exceptionally high tides continuing Tuesday at 8:55 a.m. and 9:17 p.m. (tides from the Ninth Street Bridge on the flood-prone bay side of Ocean City). At the same time, a northeast gale on Tuesday morning is churning up surf and pushing water into the back bays. East winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected to continue through the day. Showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the day, according to the NWS forecast. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. The National Weather Service categorizes the potential flood levels as "minor," a designation that often covers low-lying streets in Ocean City. Residents of flood-prone streets may want to consider moving their vehicles to higher ground. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecast for Atlantic City calls for tides
just shy of 6 feet above mean low water. Check the tide level in real time (NAVD 88 scale) from the Bayside Center on the bay at Fifth Street. __________ Sign up for OCNJ Daily’s free newsletter and breaking news alerts “Like” us on Facebook
