Former Ocean City Free Public Library Director Christopher Maloney
The public is invited to honor the memory of Christopher Maloney at the unveiling of a portrait of him painted by artist Nancy Palermo.
The event is scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, in Room 110 of the Ocean City Free Public Library.
Maloney, the former director of the library, died suddenly on Dec. 31 at age 45. Maloney was liked, respected and well-known to many in the greater Ocean City community, and he dedicated his life to the library and its many programs.
Room N110 will be renamed "The Chris Maloney Lecture Hall" in memory of Maloney. Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
The library is asking anybody who would like to attend to RSVP to Leslie Clarke at
[email protected] by Monday, Oct. 6.
Clarke said Palermo's portrait of Maloney is beautifully done.
Maloney worked at the Ocean City Free Public Library for 15 years and was director since 2003. He helped the library become an invaluable community resource for thousands of residents and visitors who use the facility not just for printed books, but for online resources, digital music and movies, computer services, community meetings and vast array of special programs and activities.
"This library was his life," former OCFPL President Nancy Larrabee said after Maloney's death. "He loved the place."
