The Ocean City Junior Raiders were in action over the weekend against the Northfield Cardinals.
The Taxi team (K-2
nd grade) opened up the action. While no official score is kept at this level, Coach Frank Rubba commented he was pleased with his team’s performance and effort.
Next up was the Peewee team (3
rd and 4
th grade). After coming off of two consecutive victories, the peewee group never could get its offense on track. While the team put up a good defensive effort against a tough Northfield squad, the team found themselves on the short end of a 26-0 game.
The JV (5
th and 6
th grade) squad put its perfect 4-0 record on the line and started off the game slowly against a tough, spirited Northfield team. An early defensive struggle led to a scoreless first half. The Junior Raiders took the opening kickoff in the second half and marched down the field, capped off by a long touchdown run by Jake Schneider. After another defensive stop, Schneider took off on another long run to close the 3
rd quarter putting the team up 12-0 after three. The defense held firm, capping off the scoring with an interception return for a touchdown by Jacob Wilson. The extra point was added on a pass by Wilson to Schneider. Head coach Carl Wanek commented after the game that he was pleased with how his team came out in the second half and in particular, the effort of his offensive line led by Will Drain, Zach Clouser, Cole Young, Carl Wanek, Dominick Troiano, Ernie Troiano, Sean Mazzitelli, Flynn DeVlieger and Zach Mazzitelli. The team is now 5-0, with all five victories coming by shutout.
Rounding up the action was the Varsity squad (7
th and 8
th grade). The team started very slowly giving up three touchdowns in the first quarter and it simply could not get on track, losing 32-0.
The Junior Raiders next play at Galloway on
