The Avenue in Ocean City was populated by pajama-clad shoppers on Saturday morning during the Earlier Than the Bird celebration.
Good crowds took advantage of sunny but cold weather for the annual event, which includes shopping discounts on the weekend before Thanksgiving and offers prizes (including free turkeys) to customers who shop in their pajamas.
The best deals were offered by Asbury Avenue merchants from Sixth Street to 11th Street from 8 a.m. to noon. Free horse-and-carriage rides and free photos with Santa were held noon to 3 p.m.
Free coffee and giveaways were available at Jon & Patty’s Bistro (Sixth Street and Asbury Avenue), Ocean City Coffee Company (Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue) and Starbuck’s (11th Street and Asbury Avenue).
Holiday events continue in the downtown with:
- Christmas in the Downtown: The downtown’s “Miracle on Asbury Avenue” celebration takes place 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28. The old-fashioned downtown Christmas event culminates with Santa descending from the roof of City Hall to visit with children.
- Free Horse and Carriage Rides: Weekends through Christmas (including Friday, Nov. 28) noon to 3 p.m. with pickup at Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue.
- Breakfast With Santa: At Ocean City restaurants from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. weekends. Look for schedule to be posted soon.
- Christmas Parade: The annual Christmas Parade will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, along downtown Asbury Avenue. Read more
