With the sun burning off morning cloud cover at the start of what promises to be a warm and sunny Memorial Day Weekend, Ocean City officials "unlocked the ocean" at noon Friday.
The century-old tradition marks the start the summer season, and for the past 11 years it's been followed by the "Business Persons Plunge," in which local merchants and professionals march into the newly unlocked ocean fully clad in business attire.
A brief ceremony preceded the events and Ocean City Business Administrator remarked to the couple hundred people in attendance that they were standing on the "No. 1 beach in New Jersey." Ocean City
swept all categories of the annual New Jersey's Top 10 Beaches Contest announced on Thursday.
