In mid-April, the Sunrise Cafe will move to the corner of 12th Street and Asbury Avenue in Ocean City — a spot formerly occupied by F&M Restaurant.
The Sunrise Cafe closed shop on Monday as it prepares to move down the Avenue for an Easter opening at a new location at the corner of 12th Street and Asbury Avenue.
The popular breakfast and lunch spot will reopen in a spot that will accommodate more outdoor seating and an expanded takeout area.
Sunrise Cafe's new location is at the site (1200 Asbury Avenue) formerly occupied by F&M Restaurant (and for a very brief time by JD's Clubhouse). Owners Bob and Sharon Idell are renovating the building and an Easter weekend opening is tentative, pending completion of work.
The cafe first opened in May at 949 Asbury Avenue with a menu featuring low-priced breakfast and lunch, fresh
baked good and a full-service deli.
A new restaurant, Fire on the Beach, will fill the vacancy left by Sunrise Cafe at 949 Asbury.
Fire on the Beach owner Charles Coburn says the new restaurant will feature breakfast, lunch and (starting in June) dinner. The restaurant serves comfort foods — but not necessarily as your mother may have served them.
Flat breads include varieties such as a reuben pizza. Burgers feature a proprietary blend of local meats. Macaroni-and-cheese comes with blue crab, lobster or bacon-and-chives, among other incarnations.
Fire on the Beach also will feature:
- An in-restaurant art gallery featuring four or five local artists at a time.
- Farm-to-fork inventory with the majority of supplies purchased from farms within a 100-mile radius of the restaurant.
- Weekend acoustic entertainment
- Gallery bites (small plates of appetizers or tapas)

FIRE on the Beach Ocean City on Facebook. Coburn says the new restaurant is expected to open on April 12.
