Exchange Club Seeks Entries for 28th Annual Fishing Tournament

The Exchange Club of Ocean City, a local and national nonprofit organization, will host its 28th annual Fishing Tournament on July 12. Proceeds benefit the Ocean City Tabernacle Youth Program. The boat registration fee is $150 ($175 after July 2, 2014) for four anglers to compete for cash prizes and merchandise (more than $3,000 in prizes). The top prize for the heaviest flounder is $1,000 and the top prize for the heaviest bluefish is $1,000. Fishing is 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and catches are weighed in at one of four locations — 24-7 Bait and Tackle in Marmora (located at All Seasons Marina), Captain Andy’s Marina in Margate, 24-7 Bait and Tackle in EHT, and Brennan’s Marine in Somers Point. All participants are invited back to All Seasons Marina in Marmora for a good old-fashioned picnic, announcements of winners and distribution of trophies and prize money. The Exchange Club Mission Statement is: “Exchange, America’s Premier Service Club working to make our communities better places to live” The Exchange Club of Ocean City donates $12,000 in general scholarships and other awards annually. The club produces the Miss Ocean City Pageant, which awards over $5,000 in scholarships. The Club hosts several block party fundraisers; the Cole Brothers Circus; and, the Club organizes the Ocean City Halloween parade during which it hands out American flags to children as part of its “Give a Kid a Flag to Wave” program. The Club runs the Roger LaRosa Golf Klassic, the Book of Golden Deeds Citizen of the Year Award; further, the Club has installed numerous Freedom Shrines, a collection of significant, historical American documents, in various public buildings and high schools, including Ocean City Schools and Ocean City Library. Through the Club’s efforts in this long running tournament, the Exchange Club of Ocean City has been able to raise many thousands of dollars for various charities and local clubs. In addition to the entry fees paid by the fishermen, over 20 businesses in the area support the Tournament with donations or by advertising in the Tournaments’ brochure.
